Biography

Dr. Sağıroğlu was born in 1976 in Bolu. He completed his undergraduate education at the Middle East Technical University in 1999. He received his master's degree from Gazi University in 2002 and his doctorate from Selçuk University in 2014. He worked at Damascus University between 2005 and 2009. He was the founding director of the Migration Research Center at the Ministry of Interior, General Directorate of Migration Management and continued in 2014 and 2015. Then he return to the position in university as the faculty member at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Sociology in 2014 and as the founding director of the Migration Policies Application and Research Center in 2015. He worked as a visiting researcher at COMPAS, Oxford University, in England where he went for post-doctoral research. He conducted field research on the labor market integration of refugees in the UK. He has been the academic advisor to the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) now. He teaches various lectures at the university such as Sociology, Sociology of Migration, Turkey's Social Structure, Theories of Change, Sociology of Everyday Life. He also took an active role in the establishment and execution of the Migration Policies and Research graduate program at AYBU. He worked as a project coordinator and project researcher in several national and international field studies. He took part in the organization of many national and international academic and scientific meetings as an organizer and participant. His scientific studies focus on intergroup relations, ethnicity, identity, migration and refugees. He knows English and Arabic.
